The Gift is a 20-30 minute documentary which juxtaposes the stories of graduates of Morehouse College class of 2019 who had their debt paid off by billionaire Robert Smith against the backdrop of the intensifying student debt crisis.

Meet the Creators

Both Joshua and Emani are Morehouse Class of 2019 and Film graduate students.

  • Joshua Reed is a director, writer and photographer based in Brooklyn, NYC. He is a CTEMS (Cinema Telvision Emerging Media Studies) Honors and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Morehouse College. He is a current candidate for an MFA in Film and Television at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

  • Emani Rashad is a Film Director and Owner of the Atlanta-based production company Saucier Films. With a portfolio featuring projects for Google and Adobe, Emani excels at capturing powerful stories. Driven by a mission to illuminate marginalized lives, Emani mentors the next generation of BIPOC storytellers, promoting authentic on-screen portrayals.

    A Morehouse College alumnus pursuing an MFA at The University of Georgia, Emani, a U.S. Army Officer, embodies creativity, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Committed to progress and empowerment, Emani is a compelling force in filmmaking.
