BHXR receives the AYCGL Social Justice and Leadership Innovation Award

We're thrilled to announce that in early December 2024, the Black History in Extended Reality (BHXR) program received a grant of nearly $7,000! This funding will support our initiatives and research, including the "Mind the Gap" project, which uses VR/AR to enhance history education.

The grant will enable us to purchase the cutting-edge Apple Vision Pro Headset and provide training for our research practitioners. This, in turn, will empower us to train student storytellers at the Morehouse Multimedia Center (MMC) in immersive storytelling techniques.

The culmination of this work will be a compelling short documentary, crewed by our talented student storytellers. This documentary will leverage the power of VR/AR to engage audiences and shed light on a crucial social justice issue.

About Black History in Extended Reality (BHXR)

The BHXR project aims to bring to life the histories and current stories of the African Diaspora through transformative multimedia experiences in virtual and augmented reality. We believe that immersive storytelling can foster deeper understanding, empathy, and engagement with these important narratives.
